We are committed to working with you and your family to manage your pain. We believe that managing your pain is an important part of your care.

Let your caregiver know as soon as pain occurs. The best time to manage pain is when it first begins. Don’t wait for the pain to get worse before asking for pain medication. Share with your caregivers what methods have worked for you in the past. If one medication does not work, there are usually other medications or methods that can be tried.

Pain is your body’s way of responding to injury, illness or stress. When pain is controlled, you sleep better, can be more active and get well faster. Report to your caregiver when you have pain, as your doctor and nurse cannot measure the pain you are experiencing. You have a right to have your pain managed effectively. Your caregiver will work with you to set a goal for the level you would like your pain to be maintained and what medications are available. You will leave with the confidence of knowing how to manage your pain effectively.

It is important to know that with the treatments available today, most pain can be well controlled no matter the type and amount of pain you may feel. Your caregivers at Calumet Surgery Center are committed to working with you to manage your pain.
